There are plenty of fantastic locations in Hillingdon. One that tends not to get enough attention is Yiewsley. It is a suburban spot and one of the commercial centres of the borough.

The history

Estate management HillingdonThe first record of Yiewsley comes from 1235. However, a hamlet didn’t take shape in the area until the 16th century. The real push for development came in the 19th century though. Businesses began springing up along the Grand Junction Canal (now the Grand Union). This brought a need for more housing and saw the creation of a number of worker’s cottages.

More growth came following the opening of the station at West Drayton in 1838. It saw the creation of even more Victorian housing and commercial spaces. In fact, the two areas became an urban district in 1930.

Today Yiewsley remains a very interesting location. There are still lots of commercial spots, including industrial estates and a business park home to many tech businesses. There is a good mix of housing too. If you are thinking of investment and want the best estate management Hillingdon can offer, we can provide it.

New plans

There has been a swathe of redevelopments in Yiewsley too in recent years. A number of them have taken old business premises and created blocks of flats in their place.

However, one project recently had to go back to the drawing board. Hillingdon Council had plans to build 100 new homes on two sites. They were planning to redevelop the site of the former pool and the site of Yiewsley Library. The new buildings would have been five and six storeys. There would also have been a brand new library as part of the work.

Unfortunately, the plans were met with a lot of criticism from locals. There were hundreds of complaints, with fears about parking and the impact on traffic. Many also had concerns about how new residents would affect the services in the village, including school places and GPs. Some even criticised the height of the new buildings.

Hillingdon Council has now chosen to withdraw the original application for the project. They appreciate the concerns that locals have. However, they are planning a new application in the future. They aim to make improvements so the scheme can create new housing while also benefiting the community.
