Plans for new PSPO around Heathrow

Living near Heathrow, the UK’s largest airport, can offer some impressive benefits. It is especially good for people who travel a lot. Plus, some locations can have surprisingly affordable prices. However, there can be some issues too. Luckily, there is work to tackle one of them with a new PSPO. We want to have a closer look at this today. Then, if you invest and want to arrange estate management in Hillingdon, you can speak to us.

The issue

Estate management HillingdonOne of the best things about Heathrow is how well connected it is. It is easy to reach on the Tube and by road. The latter means it is accessible for drivers, taxis, and buses. You can even cycle if you are local, using the cycling routes as well as the cycle storage hub.

While there are plenty of options for reaching Heathrow, taxis tend to be the most common choice. As a result, it can get incredibly busy around the airport. This is where the issue arises. There can be a large number of vehicles waiting on roads around the airport and in neighbouring areas. It can cause a lot of problems for locals trying to live their day to day lives.

Hillingdon Council receives lots of complaints from locals about taxis, including Hackney Carriages and private hire vehicles (PHVs). The complaints can include everything from bad parking to littering. There are also disgusting reports of anti social behaviour and public urination and defecation.

The PSPO

Hillingdon Council is taking steps to resolve the issue. The hope is it will massively improve the areas. This would be beneficial to locals and could also encourage more investment. We can help with the latter thanks to services like estate management in Hillingdon.

The local authority already has the power to issue Penalty Charge Notices for any taxis that park illegally. In addition, they regularly remind drivers that there are waiting facilities for them within the boundaries of Heathrow so they don’t have to wait on local streets.

However, the council is looking to go one step further by issuing a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). It would officially ban taxis and PHVs from parking and waiting in the area. Any driver that did not comply could get a fine up to £100.

The plan is to ensure the PSPO covers areas around Heathrow where the issue is worst. This includes streets in local villages, Pinkwell, and West Drayton.

The council is currently planning to hold a consultation on the PSPO. It will invite locals to give their views and help shape the final plan. A date has not been announced yet though.
