Bexleyheath is one of the most popular areas in South East London. It has a relatively new town centre thanks to redevelopment in the 80s and 90s, as well as major upgrades in 2009 onwards. There are plenty of amenities here, and two local train stations for commuting. We have a lot of experience working here, offering guaranteed rent and services as a lettings agent in Bexley. You can rely on us to offer excellent solutions.
On the topic of redevelopments, plans were submitted in November for a new project on Bexleyheath Broadway. Let’s have a look at them.
New housing
The project will involve the demolition of two buildings at 235 and 237 Broadway. One is a charity shop and the other was a HSBC bank until its closure in 2021. The redevelopment will replace them with a brand new taller building.
The most impressive thing here is the project will create 15 new homes. They will be eight one bedroom flats and seven two bedroom units. These will all be above new commercial spaces on the ground floor.
In addition, there will be space for bicycle and refuse storage plus a service area at the rear of the building. This part of the site is currently for off-street parking. However, the new structure won’t have any parking spaces. The developer is instead focusing on encouraging people to cycle and use public transport because there are good links in the area. The latter is one of the things that make it a great spot for investing, especially with help from a top lettings agent in Bexley.
Details
The plans for the project include CGI images to showcase what the new building would look like. An important goal here was to ensure the design uses similar materials and design proportions so it will sit nicely among other buildings on Broadway. It will complement the area rather than risking harm to the character.
All homes in the development will have an external terrace for some amenity space. The top storey will be set back to create an additional terrace too. This feature also works to reduce the visual impact on the frontage.
What could happen?
The project is currently open for people to give their opinions. So far there have been dozens of consultations with members of the public. Some are for it while others are against. The decision will be for local planning authorities to make though. A deadline of 7th March is in place to make a determination of whether to grant permission or not.
