Good news for Seven Sisters
Haringey Council has been pursuing the redevelopment of the Seven Sisters district for a good few years. They want to improve housing, the economy, and the community in the area. As part of this they are looking at strategic opportunities to create more council homes. It would be a big boost for people that need help accessing housing.
The council has a goal to build 3,000 new homes by 2032. They recently took a step towards this by granting permission for a new scheme at Brunel Walk and Turner Avenue Estate. The project will create 4 new blocks with 45 homes. There will be 39 apartments as well as 6 maisonettes. All of the housing will be available for social rent.
The proposals are great news for the site. It was formerly home to buildings in the council’s own portfolio. However, they were demolished recently to make way for a new development. It will be fantastic to see the site become housing and a new community.
Details
There are some details about the project that make it one of the most interesting investment properties in Haringey. For one thing it will be car free. There will only be two bays on site, specifically for wheelchair users. The council reports there will be no adverse impacts on parking from the development and changes to the current use of the site. Most importantly, new residents will have easy access to public transport with the Victoria Line and rail services at Seven Sisters Station.
The project did garner a number of objections, with several having concerns about the impact on surrounding buildings. The major worry here was overlooking and loss of sunlight. However, the council believe that privacy would not be a big issue. The separation between new and existing buildings would help minimise this. Plus, the design itself would angle windows and place balconies so there is no direct overlooking.
The plans got permission from the council’s planning subcommittee in January. As a result, work can commence to regenerate this part of the area.
