Multibillion-Pound Project

A transformation taking place in the area is closer now due to Southwark council approving one of four skyscraper projects. These major high-rises will help with the reshaping of Old Kent Road to better London’s oldest thoroughfare.

The schemes are structures up to 48 storeys and are a part of the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan sanctioned by the council. The aim of this is to create 20,000 new homes as well as 10,000 new jobs across the next 20 years. To begin this, the first phase will bring 5,000 homes plus parks. They will be along the section of Surrey Canal between Burgess Park and Surrey Quays. To help out people in the area, the promise is that 40% of the new homes will be aimed at first-time buyers and subsidised.

Bakerloo Extension

If the council grants permission for the Bakerloo Line extension, there will be even more properties. The £3.1 billion work from Elephant & Castle to Lewisham will determine the viability of the project. A member of Southwark council said that they want to help improve the town centre so that everyone can be proud of it. While it is already a desirable area to be, this will only increase over time.
