London is home to a number of beautiful outlying settlements. They tend to be in rural spots, with plenty of greenery. Havering-atte-Bower is an interesting one. It is also potentially going to welcome new housing in the near future. We want to have a look at the area and the plans. Then, if you want help with property investment in Havering, you can speak to us.
A stunning spot
The village is in the far north of Havering, bordering Essex. It has an incredible history, dating to Saxon times at least. At one point it had a palace for Edward the Confessor. In fact, the atte Bower is said to mean royal residence. Records state that the palace was then owned by King Harold and King William. It was demolished in the 17th century after falling into decline.
The royal connection does not stop there though. Henry VIII bought another palace in the area at Pyrgo. It was built in 1540, but was demolished in the 19th century. Today, Pyrgo is one of three parks in Havering-atte-Bower.
One of the most noteworthy things about the village is that it is amongst the highest points in London. This is one of the reasons it was a fantastic site for a royal residence. It would provide great views (which you can still enjoy today) and was easier to defend.
New housing
When people think of property investment in Havering, they likely don’t look at areas like Havering-atte-Bower. It is a quiet spot and sadly doesn’t have the main thing many renters and commuters want – transport links. It does have plenty to offer though, including the greenery, history, and peaceful spots. This will still appeal to some house hunters.
Something that could generate interest is plans to build six new chalet bungalows. There was an original plan in 2018 that got approval. Another from 2020 also got permission. This new plan is similar, but includes bay windows on the ground floor of the homes. As a result, the expectation is the plan will be able to proceed.
An interesting thing here is the project will actually be in the Green Belt. However, the site is currently a home and 15 commercial units. So, the redevelopment should not have a negative impact on the character of the location.
The plan is for six five bedroom bungalows. They will be high quality homes. Plus, the properties will have habitable roof space and parking.

Finefair Ltd appreciates that people want something different when they decide to invest.
