It is common knowledge that homes with gardens and outdoor space in London can command premium prices. That does not mean that every home with them is too expensive to afford though. In fact eMoov recently looked at which Boroughs with homes valued at less than £500,000 were the greenest.
In their research eMoov used the latest Land Registry figures for house prices in each Borough. They also made use of the London Datastore to examine land use. This data looks at what percentage of land is used in each Borough for domestic and non-domestic buildings, roads, railways, paths, water ways, green space, gardens, and other things.
The findings show that the Borough with the most land allocated to domestic gardens with homes costing less than £500,000 is Harrow. A fantastic 34.7% of the land in the north west area is allocated to domestic gardens. Surprisingly the Borough also had the highest percentage of homes valued at under £500,000.
Sutton came a close second to Harrow at 34.5% of the land being dedicated to domestic gardens. The south west Borough had a more affordable average house price though. The difference between the two can be traced to the popularity disparity on the north and south sides of the Thames.
