The inspiration
Mr Morris got inspiration from the thin, tall arches of St Martin, a church existing close by. Built in 1865, this Grade 1 building was described as being the craziest of the capital’s Victorian churches by Nikolaus Pevsner, an architectural historian. He referred to it like this due to the towers, which looked incomplete, and William Morris stained glass windows.
According to Peter Morris, the church pinnacles take after those you would find on a classic Disney castle. He said there wasn’t any other style existing on the street that instilled him with more confidence to be a tad more flamboyant. Many people say the design is rather Art-Deco style. Others said that it is similar to a mosque. Morris can see where they are coming from despite the fact that he did not take influence directly from either opinion.
The Miami Art Deco architecture’s influence
The decision to use teal window frames and metalwork alongside buff pink walls came from world famous Miami Art Deco architecture. Morris and his wife had their honeymoon there and fell in love with the style.
The plan is to make the interior considerably bolder than the exterior. There is going to be contrasting patterns and colours as well as polka-dot tiles. These are going to be followed through from the roof.
