A new development could see the creation of 95 new affordable homes in Roehampton, Wandsworth. The project would see Pocklington Court demolished and replaced with the new housing. The building was formerly a residence offering specialist care and support for blind and partially blind people. It has been empty since the last tenants vacated the property in 2017.
Catering for different tenancy needs
The interesting thing about the project is the homes will be available for three very different housing needs. The plan is for 54 of the new homes to be made available for shared ownership and also at the London Living Rent rate. The other 41 will be specifically for older residents. The design of these properties will promote for maximum accessibility. In addition, they will feature assistive technology to support independent living.
The proposals will see the conversion of a Brownfield site into new housing. It will be great for the area and also meets the needs of various different residents. The location is fantastic, surrounded by the greenery of Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. Putney Village is within touching distance and Putney is under 20 minutes away with local bus services.
The proposals currently await a decision for planning permission. If successful, the work could start in the summer. This kind of schedule would allow completion in 2020.
