New homes are being created across Barking and Dagenham

Barking and Dagenham is taking an innovative approach to housing that could see as many as 50,000 new homes created in the Borough in the next 20 years. The focus is on building affordable homes that attract all kinds of people, including employees from creative industries and the arts. The local council stress the focus is not gentrification, rather it is on building properties accessible to Londoners.

With all of the work going on in terms of investment properties Barking and Dagenham is set for big changes. Big steps are already being made towards hitting the target of 50,000 new homes. Barking Riverside alone will ultimately be home to over 10,000 homes. In addition the development has been devised with healthcare in mind, making it London’s only “healthy” town.

One of the most eye-catching ideas for the Borough is focused on the A13. The main road stretches from Central London to south Essex, running through both Barking and Dagenham in the south of the Borough. It effectively acts as a barrier between the Riverside and the rest of the area.

Although the A13 is a major route the road is criticised for the level of pollution it creates. The innovative plan would help to resolve this whilst also freeing up a lot of additional land. It would entail digging a tunnel beneath the area for the road to run through. The land it currently takes up could then be used to build around 15,000 new homes. This would also connect both parts of the Borough.

In addition to these projects, thousands of new homes are being built on sites across Barking and Dagenham. For example the former Ford stamping plant will make room for 2,650 homes, Lymington Mews is contributing 610, 360 Barking has 291, and the redevelopment of Vicarage Field Shopping Centre will add 900.

As you can see this is a great time to look at the huge number of investment properties Barking and Dagenham is becoming home to. The Borough is also renowned for offering some of the most affordable prices in the capital as well as a multitude of attractions such as green open spaces and good transport links. It is no surprise so many people expect it to continue to be one of the most popular areas for buyers.
