The site of Brentford FC’s former stadium at Griffin Park will soon get a new lease of life. HTA Design recently submitted new plans for the redevelopment. These include some impressive amendments from earlier proposals from 2021. We want to have a closer look at them here because they could be transformative for the area and benefit the community. Then, if you invest in assets and want block management in Hounslow, we can help.
History
Brentford FC had their home at Griffin Park for an incredible 115 years. From 1904 to 2020, the stadium saw plenty of action. Amazingly, plans to move to a new stadium had been floating around since the 70s. They took a big step forward in 2007 when a site less than a mile away was chosen. The club bought it in 2012 and got planning permission in 2014. Construction began in 2017 and was complete in 2020.
Incredibly, plans to redevelop Griffin Park into housing date all the way back to 2005. Permission was given in 2015. However, those plans did not come to fruition.
Latest designs
HTA’s new proposal for the redevelopment is very interesting. They will build 149 homes on the site. This includes 41 houses as well as two apartment blocks. Some of them could become very attractive assets. Investors will be able to rely on us for block management in Hounslow and more if they need it.
The 149 homes is a massive increase from the 75 in 2021’s plans. Most importantly, there will be more affordable homes. This includes 30 that will be available at a discount for key workers and locals from Hounslow.
The plans aren’t just for housing though. There will be a new park delivering 1,770 sq/m of public green space. It will celebrate the history of the site. This will benefit locals and connect the new development with the community. The latter is really important because it is a residential part of London.
There will be a number of green initiatives too. For example, the developer will plant 100 new trees. The new buildings will feature solar panels and low carbon heating systems to make them more sustainable. Plus, there will be charging points for electric vehicles.
Comments
The designs by HTA are for developer EcoWorld London. They were responsible for developing Brentford FC’s new stadium and have also been committed to redeveloping Griffin Park for years.
Gregor Mitchell, Senior Director, was very positive about the latest designs. He said they have a commitment to deliver quality new homes for the site as well as other locations in Hounslow. He believes this site is key to the wider area. It will open Brentford to the community and reconnect it.
