Are we almost ready to go with Romford’s new masterplan?

The London Plan sets out the development strategy for the whole city. It dates back to 2004, but there have been newer versions since then, the latest coming in 2021. A crucial thing it looks at is metropolitan centres across the city and how to develop them. Romford is one centre that gets a mention. It is a great spot in an excellent location between Central London and Essex. So, redeveloping it could be very beneficial. However, there have been major delays here. We want to look at this today and how we could finally be seeing some positive movement. Then, if you want help from a lettings agent in Havering, you can rely on us.

Romford plans

Lettings agent HaveringThere has been lots of planning when it comes to developing Romford. Work on a 20 year masterplan began in 2017. But, it has been a difficult job to get the plans signed off and into reality.

There have been a number of notable delays. One culprit was the time it took for the local plan to get approval. It in itself had a tough time getting approval because of details like parking limitations.

Another cause of the delay is the time it has taken to consider different details. One in particular that has been divisive is the plan to transform the ring road into an “urban boulevard”. The goal is to more effectively integrate local neighbourhoods and the town centre. However, some critics wanted to remove it from the plan.

Approval

The estimate is that Havering Council’s Cabinet will approval the Romford masterplan next week. This would make it easier for projects to begin to rejuvenate the town. It could lead to lots of new work, including for every lettings agent in Havering.

The massive 228 page plan has a number of fantastic proposals. Overall, it wants to make the town a better place. One way to do this is by diversifying, attracting a wider array of businesses from both London and Essex. To do it, shops on the High Street, market square, and several other sites will see improvements.

The masterplan also wants to improve safety in the town. This, as well as the improvement in shops, will hopefully make more people visit and shop locally. Plus, it hopes to establish a better night-time economy for the area.

An important detail is there will be work to improve the entrance to Romford Station. It is a vital piece of the transport infrastructure, with over 11.6 million journeys in 22/23. A better entrance will be fantastic for users.

Crucially, the proposal aims to ensure all developments are sustainable. In addition, the goal is to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage and culture.

It will be great to see projects come forward once the Romford masterplan has approval. Some critics say proposals have already been given permission before it comes in, calling it a scandal.
