The list
At the top of the Oxford Economics’ list is New York. The US city is the home of Wall Street, one of the most important financial districts in the world. You can find the New York Stock Exchange here, as well as the Federal Reserve Bank and the HQs of countless businesses. So, the contribution to global economics is easy to see.
NY also has one of the best transport systems in the world according to the data. It ranks the subway system as the largest metro economy in the world.
London did very well to secure the second spot on the list. Like New York, it contributes a lot to the global economy thanks to the City and Canary Wharf. It is a crucial spot for business and investments. Plus, it is one of the most important locations for education.
The only real drawback for London was the transport system. While the Underground is a fantastic asset and there are plenty of other options, the city could only secure 4th spot in this regard.
Another notable city on the list was Tokyo in 4th, trailing just behind tech powerhouse San Jose, California. It has the second largest economy, falling just behind NY in terms of GDP.
Melbourne got an impressive 9th on the list. It is notable for having an excellent environment score, including low carbon emissions and fantastic air quality.
Zurich is also noteworthy as it rounds out the top 10. It had the best score of all cities if you look at Quality of Life.
