The history

Investment properties City of WestminsterLike many parts of the city, the area was once part of a manor estate. In the 11th century it was home to just 8 households. There wasn’t much change in the next 7 centuries, with the spot remaining mostly rural. This will be incredibly surprising to anyone who knows the location today.

Development started in the 19th century. Two crucial things happened to trigger this. Firstly, was the creation of the Regent’s Canal. Work began in 1812 to create the waterway. The first section linking Camden and Paddington, including a 48m tunnel at Lisson Grove, opened in 1816. It became an important route for shipping heavy goods on barges, including coal and building materials.

The second development was the arrival of the railway. This was much later, with Marylebone Station opening in 1899. Today it is one of the most important stations in the city.

There was a time when Lisson Grove was a notorious slum. However, rapid development changed this. It became home to iconic social housing post WWI and again post WWII. More importantly, it became a great spot for art and antiques.

Today

Lisson Grove today is an interesting choice if you want investment properties in the City of Westminster. The most notable thing is it has some of the most affordable housing in the area. That is crucial because large parts of the borough are too expensive for a lot of buyers. This spot is more accessible, so it is popular for professionals looking to get on the property ladder and families.

One thing people love about the area is the amenities. It has some excellent shops (especially antiques), bars, restaurants, and theatres. There is plenty on Edgware Road. So, locals can have a fantastic lifestyle with the money they save on housing. There is also Regent’s Park nearby for green space.

Commuting from Lisson Grove is easy too. As we said above, Marylebone Station is in the area so there are plenty of Rail Services. Or, people can easily get to Edgware Road or Baker Street to get on the Tube (Bakerloo Line). It takes around 30 minutes to get to the City (35 if you choose to cycle). Canary Wharf is a little further down the line.

The area is one people should definitely consider for investments. There are expectations that more gentrification will happen in the future, potentially pushing up prices. As a result, it could become a new hotspot.
