Celebrating photography history in Harrow

London is one of the most interesting cities in the world in terms of culture. There is a long history in various fields, from art to literature, manufacturing to modern tech. It is fantastic when areas celebrate their unique histories. We want to look at how a project in North West London is celebrating photography. Then if you need property management in Harrow, you can rely on us.

A new development

Property management HarrowBarratt Homes is currently in the process of redeveloping the site of a former Kodak factory. The plant was built in 1890. It was the largest facility for the company in the UK and their first outside the US. Initially the factory was for developing and printing photos. However, it became a key site for R&D and then manufacturing films rolls and photography paper.

At its peak the site had a number of buildings covering 55 acres. Around 6,000 people worked in the factory. However, Kodak began to struggle due to the rise of digital photography. The company gradually declined, ceasing production of film in 2005. The factory had to close in 2016.

However, Barratt Homes is bringing new life to the site. They are developing it to create Eastman Village, a 2,000 home neighbourhood. The new name is inspired by the founder of Kodak.

The developer also recently revealed that one of the buildings will be named the Robertson Apartments. This name comes from James Robertson, a pioneering photographer with notable works from the Crimean War.

Details

These new properties could appeal to various buyers, including families and investors. We’ll be able to work with any of the latter who want property management in Harrow.

One of the most interesting things here is how the designs celebrate the heritage of the site. For one thing, they retain the original chimney from the Kodak factory. It will be part of a new energy centre that will provide sustainable heating for the homes.

In addition, the buildings will feature red bricks throughout. These were used on the original Kodak factory buildings, so it is a nice celebration of the heritage. Plus, there will be graphics and signage to also hark back to the history.

As well as 2,000 homes, the site will be home to a restaurant, cafes, a gym, and other amenities. Plus, it is in a fantastic location for commuting. Harrow and Wealdstone is nearby. It has Bakerloo Tube Services, Overground, Southern, and West Midlands train services, and buses too.

This is also a fantastic area for the wider amenities. For example, there are dozens of schools in the borough, many of which have Outstanding ratings. A larger redevelopment in the area is creating new leisure facilities, shops, and commercial space. This adds to things already on offer nearby such as parks and recreational grounds, shopping centres, and more.
