Ealing Council approves women-only tower block

Plans involving a 15-storey women-only tower within west London have received the go-ahead. Ealing Council gave approval for this application recently. As a result, it will see the creation of 102 new flats. They are coming from the Women’s Pioneer Housing Association (WPA). As one of the best names for property management Ealing has, we want to have a look at the plan.

As part of the project, Brooke House will be knocked down and replaced. The property is in an area of low-rise blocks the WPA owns. They are opposite Acton Town tube station, so the location will be excellent.

Concerns

Property management EalingSome concerns were raised by residents, the Met Police, and conservation groups during the planning process. There were objections to the structure’s height and fears of the danger of anti-social behaviour. Others were worrying about pollution and the impact on the environment.

In spite of the few objections, Ealing Council gave approval. They said that the concerns were not enough to outweigh the recommendation to accept the plans. According to the council’s planning committee, there was strong policy support for affordable housing in the area. Also, the impeccable design from GRID outweighs the concerns. They are the architects responsible for this build.

What will these new flats provide?

These homes will offer low rent accommodation only to women that are single. According to the WPA’s policy, women female at birth or those with a gender recognition certificate that legally declares them female can join the public waiting list. It is the same for transgender women that have experienced, will undergo, or are planning to partake in gender reassignment. Non-binary individuals who match the criteria are also eligible too.

Men will only be able to stay in the structure if they are partners of the tenants. Adult children set to inherit the property can also stay. If you need the foremost services for property management Ealing can offer, come to us.

The housing will be especially focused on women experiencing domestic abuse and other problems. Focus will also be on women of ethnic-minority backgrounds.

Existing Brook House tenants will be able to return to the new build. However, they will need to temporarily relocate while construction occurs. Some current residents have raised concerns that they could end up displaced for years. Others say the new flats may not be big enough for their families.

Affordable housing for women

According to WPA figures, during 2021 the average London woman earned 30.4% less compared to men. This was nearly double the national average. During their annual report, the housing association also said there wasn’t a region in England where a single woman earning a standard woman’s salary could afford to rent a private sector home solo.

WPA said it was essential to give women high calibre, affordable housing. At present, they own over 1,000 properties all over the capital. They are looking to expand this number to make homes more accessible.
