One of the most interesting investment projects here in recent years is the transformation of the old Bromley Town Hall. It has gone from a sorry state to preparing for a brand new lease of life. Soon it could become a vital asset for the local area.

A stunning heritage property

Investment properties BromleyThe original town hall dates back to 1906. It replaced an older property in Market Square that was built in 1863. The design is fantastic, with a symmetrical frontage, eye catching central section featuring a porch with columns, and a wooden cupola and copper dome on the roof. There were a number of extensions over the years too. This includes a Neo-Georgian frontage on the other side from 1939.

Bromley Town Hall became one of the most pivotal buildings in the area. It was the seat of the local government for decades, retaining this role during the formation of the London Borough of Bromley in 1965. Then, in 1982 the council moved their offices.

One of the most interesting things about the building is it was the venue for the wedding of David Bowie and Mary Angela Barnett in 1970. That was an interesting moment for one of the biggest music icons of all time. The Town Hall was also a nuclear fallout shelter during WWII, but that might have been less turbulent than Bowie’s first marriage.

Following the move of the council, the building became Bromley College Business School. It was an education hotspot until 2007. Sadly, it became vacant afterwards and had to go on the Heritage at Risk Register in 2009 because of the deterioration.

A bright future

In 2020 the building became one of the most notable investment properties in Bromley. Work began to convert it into a new boutique hotel, the first in the area. There would also be new space for a restaurant and offices.

The transformation was complete in 2022. As a result, The Brama Hotel is preparing to open in May. It will provide 23 beautiful rooms with sleek, luxury designs. The most impressive thing is how the regeneration has saved the architectural features, particularly in the stunning entrance. The building has been Grade II Listed since 1993. So, the development had to work with this in mind. It beautifully retains the Art Deco design.

The hope is the building will become a great asset for the area. It will invite more visitors and provide the extra amenities with the restaurant and offices. It really is a great transformation for a property that was once feared would be lost entirely.
