A new development
Hillingdon Council recently gave planning permission for a new development in the borough. The site is on Austin Road, an area on the Hayes Town Centre Estate. It is a location that desperately needs an update. The current buildings are from the 60s and 70s, so they are showing their age and there are concerns about the quality. The area also has a reputation for anti social behaviour because of the layout.
The local planning committee chose to green light a redevelopment of the site because it sees the value it will offer. The project will involve the demolition of the existing buildings, including 260 homes. In their place will be modern tower blocks designed by Pollard Thomas Edwards. This will almost double the amount of housing, increasing it to 500 units.
The new housing will be a mix of units, ranging from one to four bedrooms. As a result, the site will support a diverse community of families, single tenants, and couples.
Most importantly, more than half of the homes will be affordable. This is important for the area and the capital as a whole. The majority of the larger units will be reserved for social housing to support families in the borough.
