£10m investment for Havering council estates

The Council’s housing budget, Housing Revenue Account, has had £10m set aside. The reason for this is that the money will help improve council estates. Havering Council’s Cabinet gave approval for the plans at a meeting on July 9th.

The purpose of this money is to improve the look, feel, and safety of council estates in the area. The work will enhance the buildings and communal areas. Each of Havering’s 47 estates will get a score based on a set of criteria; this will help the team to decide what improvements to make.

What will the estates improvement programme involve?

This programme of works will include a number of improvements. For example, the aim is to improve safety by installing and upgrading fencing. Other areas of work include upgrades for the communal and external lights. This is as well as better door entry systems to restrict access.

The estates will also receive cosmetic improvements. This work will involve repainting internal communal areas and decorating exteriors. In addition, workers will look into how to upgrade path and landscaping in areas. The council will also improve access with wider entrances and ramps. This is as well as considering making parking improvements where they can.
